STAY TUNED FOR 2008!

What is TOXIC LACROSSE?

TOXIC LACROSSE is an Elite Fall Travel Team sponsored by the Culpeper Lacrosse Association. The team is open to anyone who wishes to tryout each Fall. The primary purpose for TOXIC LACROSSE is to showcase our talent to prospective college recruits.

TOXIC LACROSSE also serves as a pre-season for our local players to brush up on their games. We continually strive to attend more tournaments with the emphasis on tournaments that host the most college recruiters.

This year TOXIC LACROSSE will be adding The Outback Steakhouse Elite 150 8 v8 tournament hosted by Mount St. Mary’s University because of the talent that will be available to play and the number of colleges that will be represented. TOXIC LACROSSE will also be returning to Virginia Beach as last year's runner-up team.

TOXIC LACROSSEis coached by Coach Scott Found (US Lacrosse Regional Coach of the Year ’06, Head Coach Culpeper County High School Lacrosse), Coach Tommie Thompson (1st team All-District, ’05 & ’06, 1st team All-Region ’06) and Coach Lusby Blackwell (Culpeper County High School Lacrosse Asst. Coach, Virginia State Quarter-Finalist ‘06).

Practices are at 6:00 – 7:30 at Old AG Field on Lightfoot Street near Rt. 3.

If you have made the team you have a number of items that need to be taken care of in a timely fashion.

First and foremost, email me your sizes for the following items of clothing: shirt, hoodie, sweat pants and shorts. Hats are fitted so if you feel like you have an abnormally small head I will be ordering L and M’s. Please do this as soon as you learn of your placement on a team.

Second, payment of $200 made out to CLA to pay for apparel and tourney holding fees. CLA will be covering the rest. Dates will be posted shortly Oct 27 will be the first.

Third, filling out medical release forms in a timely manner when they are presented to you at practice or by email makes my job much easier instead of chasing a few around.

Fourth, renting hotel rooms for those tourneys that you may want to stay overnight before the event, something that is not required this year with so many athletes.

Finally, I would like to make some things very clear so we can have a great and learning experience this fall. You can expect the coaches to give of their time freely, coach and teach each athlete regardless of his talent or experience. We will try to bring in specialty coaches from the past two district champion teams to help in each particular position. Our intent when it comes to our teams will be nothing but honest and 100% effort. Each coach will teach to the extent of their knowledge (each coach is US Lacrosse certified) If you have a concern or questions about coaching styles, playing time, or any constructive criticism should addressed after a practice or via phone call. But please do not question coaches at tournaments as it will under mind the entire team’s effort.

In return we ask a few things from both athletes and parents. Please be on time for practice and after practice pickups (although we do run long as we lose track of time). Please do not encourage your athlete to change anything we ask them to do. It may at times seem like he is letting someone have their way, but that may be the exact thing we want so we can have a planned response. Please don’t try to help with lacrosse technique but do try to help with conditioning, weight lifting, throwing in the back yard or anything that helps with the essentials of lacrosse. You will be glad later, much less stressed and enjoy the success of watching your son begin to excel at a great sport.

We have expectations for the players as well. You will be completely disciplined. This is an elite opportunity. It is not league play. You will be dressed and ready to practice at the time specified not arriving at practice time. You will give your complete attention to any coach’s instruction, you will read, understand any playbooks given to you. You will ask questions when you have them as it can only help the team when everyone understands their responsibilities. There will be no singled out stars or ball hogs, if so the player will be benched. It is imperative that we work as a team which WILL bring us success in the long run. You will continue the tradition of Culpeper Lacrosse which is known statewide: we do not quit until the last whistle, we do not hang our heads, and we play harder, run harder and have more heart than any team we have ever played.

Now we all know what we should expect from each other. Let’s all learn hard, Play hard, make mistakes hard, cheer hard and never ever quit having fun being successful at lacrosse. A sport you will enjoy for a long time. Remember off this year’s team alone we have six players playing NCAA lacrosse and on the other end Coach Verardo and I still try to play. It is a brotherhood, a fraternity and a universal sport played in most countries and is America’s first sport. Honor it through the qualities I have explained above and you will represent your community, your team and most importantly yourself well.

NOW LET’S QUIT TALKING AND GET PLAYING.
